Nick,

I've played the Australian reeds and they are much thicker than the typical
Vandoen and I have found that they are much less refined. I know it's
difficult to believe that something could be less refined than Vandoren but
it's true. Elsa (my teacher) has a friend who plays in the Alpha Centauri
ensemble in Australia and she came to play and give master classes, etc... in
America and of course she was promoting the new Australian reeds, called eeds
Australia. She sounded rather good on them but when the rest of us, Elsa and
the entire studio, we sounded God awful. Perhaps they work well over there for
her because the climate is so drastically different from here. Who knows? But
I didn't like them very much.

The reeds that I'm going to try are Queens reeds and the woodwind and brasswind
sells them for 9.95 per box. There's a great price! Quite a few people in the
New York area and the Boston area play on them including the late Peter Hadcock
and play on them with much success. So I figure that it's worth a try.

That's all for now.
Keep writing guys, the more help the better.
