How do they measure reeds? Is it even reasonable to expect that Rico
can maintain consistency to this level of granularity?

Its a great idea, but I'm not convinced its possible.

Maybe the measurement is the key. Don't they make reeds first, and then
decide what strength they are? If Rico has figured out how to more
accurately perform a measurement of a characteristic meaningful to the
player, then they should be able to offer a product of higher value.
