In my experience, the main thing that you have to worry about with a
metal clarinet is the same thing you have to worry about with an ebonite
one...all of the excess moisture goes right to the pads. If the horn does
not come equipped with leather pads (I have seen some with original white
kid pads) you should use very "thirsty" swabs, and try to avoid playing a
really cold horn, as that will increase moisture problems tenfold.
Otherwise, if you are lucky enough to have one which has a good sound,
they are virtually indestructible.
