I have a sliver Selmer (Paris) Bb soprano metal clarinet in five piece
layout with a sterling silver mouthpiece (like the old Selmer Soloist saxophone
mouthpieces). The instrument has an articulated G# and is very well made.
It dates from October, 1935. This is a fine instrument and was not built
nor considered a student line. Haynes Flutes of Boston also made a sterling
silver double walled body clarinet in the 1930's. I fear that the firms
mentioned probably gave up on the idea of making a pro silver instrument
because of the student-metal concept. More on this later: wood vs metal
for the flute, etc.
