Yes, a joke indeed. I felt a bit the same at the
Paris office of Selmer. Ah, well, the French DO like
to have fun at the expense of American tourists. It helps
to remain cheerful about the whole matter. I felt a
bit the same when I went in to try out mouthpieces.
Carrying out the entire proceedings in French and hanging
around a while, using one of their practice rooms while
I made a decision was something I had wanted to do for
the past 40 years, so the experience was well worth the
$60 I paid for the mouthpiece, even though I'm not completely
satisfied with it. The HS* I purchased in the U.S. suits
me at least as well.

As someone on the list so aptly put it,
"What can I say, if you want a good
mouthpiece, buy it from someone who specializes in making
mouthpieces." Very good advice.

Oliver
P.S. I'd like to improve the phrasing of this posting,
but the editor of my mainframe is on the blink, so I'll send it this way. --
