You might want to try slightly lowering the register key as you make the
transition from another note to the evil A. This also has the happy
side-effect of making the notes in that neighborhood less sharp. On my
old, tubby A, this helped quite a bit. Now that I have a terrific new A
(thanks, Clark), I don't need to do this to help the note speak, but it
still comes in handy at times to adjust intonation.
