A baroque oboe maker friend (oboes are baroque - not the friend!)
recommended almond oil when I restored an old Kohlert Albert-system
clarinet. It was so old, tired and filthy that after cleaning with
denatured alcohol it needed re-oiling inside and out (NEEDLESS TO SAY
with the keys off! and the pads were totally dead anyway!). The result
really looked handsome, inside and out. She explained that almond oil is
light enough to penetrate the wood, at least more than other oils.

David Pino recommends olive oil in his book, but I'm sold on the almond
oil. But then, I have metal B-flat and E-flat clarinets, so I don't have
to worry about this much!
