Okay, last time I asked this question, I wasn't in orchestra, so
wasn't eligible for a tour soloist slot, but now I am. I've been
working on the Mozart bassoon concerto, but would rather audition for
tour soloist with a piece written specifically for bass clarinet solo
with orchestra, as I was planning on using the Mozart as my audition
piece for senior soloist. There are 2 restrictions on what pieces us
auditionees can choose: 1) should be 5-10 minutes in length, 15
minutes is absolute max, and 2) can't be rental-only. The rental-only
bit is because we are playing "Pictures at an Exhibition" and that's
costing $$$$$ to rent. I looked in the 2 clarinet repertoire books
our music lib has, and found only one piece for bass w/orch, a
concerto by Heller. If I need to, I'll do the Mozart I've been
planning on, but I'd rather do a bass-specific piece. Do any such
beasts exist which meet the above restrictions, and if so, where can I
get my hands on the part ASAP? (Auditions are Sept. 20, and the piece
must be memorized) Thanks!!!
