I always had problems dragging my bass clarinet around with me until I had
a special cover made for it that (1) completely enclosed and protected the
case, and (2) had shoulder straps on it that permit me to carry it on my
back as I need to do so. It was not cheap, but the last time I did a tour
I blessed the maker for it. I could put my b.c. on my back and pick up my
bags with both hands and head for my hotel room, all in a trice. I can
carry the b.c. on my back for some length of time now without getting tired.

The name of the company that made it for me (and they are made only on special
order and to the size of your case) is Reunion Blues and they are a San
Francisco firm. They also make generalized bassoon cases and tuba cases
and everything else that they sell over the counter, but they would not do
that for my b.c. because of the left hand pinky keys that stick out of the
unassembled instrument. They felt they could not protect those keys
satisfactorily and recommend that I continue with the case I have. It was only
then that we thought about the back-pack mode. It is wonderful!
