On July 24, 1994, James McGlinchey asked about the use of Pad Savers. Here
goes:

I use them in my saxes (soprano, alto and tenor), because swabs (other
than soprano) are a pa---- in the as-----. They don't seem to lint up too
badly with the larger bore instruments. As far as the clarinet, there is a
linting (is that a word?) problem. The basic concept of the Pad Saver is
good, i.e. to remove moisture. I have found some lint from these giant pipe
cleaners in the tone holes of regular soprano clarinets. So, I stopped using
them (except the Mouse in the mouthpiece). Result: fine for sax, not good
for clarinets.
