Another suggestion might be something I remember from my
youth(?). Have your student(s) play slowly below the break
(i.e., C,D and E) and while they are doing so, YOU slip YOUR
hand around the upper joint and YOU press down the register
key, without the knowledge of the student. This little
manuever will (hopefully) keep your students from
psychologically "preparing" for the upper register notes (along
with the prerequisite tightening, biting, etc.). After they
get the idea that nothing much should have to change, their
confidence just may improve!
