In the recent discussion of metal clarinets, someone posted the following lines

>Anyone who is curious about the metal clarinet might want to give a
>listen to Lester Young's solo clarinet recordings. He uses the thing as
>an instrument in its own right and the results are a touchstone in the
>development of clarinetry.

Unfortunately, the writer didn't indicate his/her name (or it didn't come
through in my copy of the message), so I can't respond directly to him/her
via e-mail. (I assume that we're talking about the Lester Young who is best
known for his tenor sax playing, both in the Basie band and later on his
own.) I was intrigued by the recommendation, but though I've looked through
some jazz discographies such as the _Penguin_Guide_to_Jazz_on_CDs,_LPs_and_
_Cassettes_, I haven't been able to find any references to those recordings
of Lester Young on clarinet (metal or otherwise).

Could the person making the original comment please provide some further
details of the albums or song titles in question? Thanks in advance, and
if you would prefer to take the discussion outside of the listserver, I
would equally welcome e-mail at either

LECHNER@-----.us
or dlechner@-----.com

Thanks again for your follow-up information.
