It has been interesting to read the thread-let on C clarinet. A colleague
here in the SF Opera orchestra owns a current model Buffet C clarinet
which has a wonderful sound, but suffers from some intonation difficulties.

I have always felt that acoustically theC clarinet was too far away from
a Bb to be able to use a Bb mouthpiece successfully.

I took some time one day and played around with one of my blanks and
tried to come up with a better "C" mouthpiece. My suspicions were correct.
I habve not come up with the "Ideal" configuration yet, but I found that
if I substantially increased the bore width and shortened the over all
length by about 1mm the general tuning and response was much better.

I am stilll working on this one, but I am convinced that a standard Bb
mouthpiece is not the solution.
