Roger Shilcock suggests that the Noblet C clarinet is successful because
it functions with a B-flat clarinet mouthpiece. I have a Buffet C
clarinet that I bought used from Rosario Mazzeo. It was made ca.
1890 and it uses a standard mouthpiece. I was unaware that any
contemporary C clarinet used anything else. (Oh yes. The instrument
is over 100 years old and it still plays great. There is an
intonation problem on the open G, but that was true 100 years ago.
So much for blow out.)
