On a recent business trip to Reno, I wandered up and down the main street
and passed about 6 pawn shops. In the window of every one were at least
a dozen metal clarinets. I went in to price them and, of course, the
prices were outrageous. They wanted over $100 for a piece of junk that had
been in the window (and in the sun) so long that the pads had fallen out.

So to see to what extent haggling was possible, I offered them $10 for one
that they told me was $120. The salesman said "Well, I don't know if we
could let it go for that." and immediately I knew that I could have it
for $20 with very little effort.
