I will not pretend to have known Jerry well, in fact I only met him twice.
Both times were a the Clarinet conferences in Flagstaff, AZ and
Cincinnati, OH. I had always admired Jerry's knowledge of repertoire and
his fond dedication toward uncovering missing parts. His contributions to
the Clarinet were one of two columns that I read without fail.

I think what I will never forget about Jerry that first summer I met him
is that he was so encouraging. I was definitely "the new kid" and could
barely get anyone to try my equipment. Jerry was one of the very first to
come sit down and ask me about what I knew. Business was slow and I
appreciated the company. We talked about Kaspar mouthpieces, current
trends in mouthpieces making, Bonade, clarinet... clarinet... Jerry
stopped by everyday during the conference and always had something to ask
me about. He was sitting in the first rows when I performed at the conference
and made a point of coming by my booth again to compliment my playing.

Jerry struck me as kind, warm man who liked life and did not take himself
too seriously. I can only imagine that he brought that to his teaching
and that some of his spirit lives on through his students as well as
friends and family.

Good bye, Jerry. I was really looking forward to seeing you this summer.
