I'm pretty sure that the instrument that John Belz asked about is the
AKAI EVI ... electronic valve instrument. The three keys are valve
analogues, the cylinder is the octave control. This was invented
before the EWI, bought by AKAI, and they developed the EWI from it,
I'm fairly sure.
