Several years ago I saw a publication (from the UK) that was described as an
unaccompanied work for electric basset clarinet in A. And I thought to myself,
"Whoever had the gumption to publish such a work must be an incurable
optimist." So I went and bought the piece though I do not have a basset
clarinet, electric or any other kind and I played it on my regular A clarinet
which was really rather impractical because the piece required descent to the
basset notes. I wonder how many copies of the work they sold?
