Subj: Why aren't electronic woodwinds popular?

Discussion topic for the slow summer months:

Why aren't electronic woodwinds (Lyricon, Windjammer, etc) popular?
They've been available for over 15 years, so they've had plenty of time
to catch on.

By the time the electric guitar was 15 years old, it was well on its
way towards replacing the acoustic guitar and even supplanting wind
instruments. The electric piano caught on early -- even the relatively
crude reed-type pianos that don't have the flexibility of a modern
keyboard. Electric organs have always done well.

I have my own ideas, but I'm interested in the group's thoughts.

Does anyone even own one of these electronic marvels?
