I know someone here in Los Angeles who was using vodka to soak his reeds.
The theory was that the alcohol would kill germs, and maybe more
importantly, would inhibit the bacteria that gradually erode the cane. I
think I know the better reason he was using vodka, however.
He has since given it up, because he was getting funny looks at those 9am
recording sessions.
