Subj: Half-serious question re reeds

Since things seem to be quiet on the list these days, I would like
to pose the following question:

Was my leg being pulled when I was recently told of a clarinettist
who moistened his reeds in gin? Have other liquids (more exotic than
water or spit) been used for this purpose? I can imagine some
interesting effects (on the music or the musician) from using tea,
coffee, wine, bourbon, vodka.

(I remember it used to be said that Guy Lombardo producd his
remarkable tone by pouring luke-warm milk into the bells of the
saxaphones, so who knows?)

All in fun ;-)
