There is a lot of truth in what you say regarding finding a set-up and
staying with it, but it seems to me that there are equipment changes that can
make playing a lot easier; there have been many enhancements to the ligature
scene in recent years, and there are some new mouthpiece makers-adjusters
with improvements. I guess the bottom line is that if a new piece of
equipment will ease the playing process, produce a better sound, or better
pitch, why not use it. When the search for equipment replaces practise
routine, and "listening", then it goes too far.
