If memory serves, it takes about 60 years for these babies to reach full
maturity. The logs shown on the t.v. film were of strikingly poorer
quality and smaller diameters than the stuff available through trade
channels 20 years ago (when I was last involved in purchasing the stuff).

I note that in "my day" logs were being exported from Africa, whereas the
practice indicated in the film was local milling and the export of turning
squares -- something which also suggests the reduction in supplies of high
quality raw material. (It may also suggest changes in export legislation.)
