Those people I've met who use glass mouthpieces habitually say that they are
buzz-free (subjectively, at least). I used to get a buzz feeding all the way
through my cheapo bass from the metal bell to the mouthpiece, until I damped
the bell with chunks of BluTak - the mouthpiece is a standard Van Doren thing.
Certainly, the mouthpieces that used to go on Boosey & Hawkes student
instruments could really shake your teeth. These were apparently made of a thin
thermoplastic. Some retailers replaced these with Van Doren mouthpieces before
sale.
