A request was made for emergency info about the Max Reger quintet for
clarinet and string quartet.

The work is for clarinet in A, is four movements long, and is in the
style of the Brahms quintet. The total length is about 35 minutes.

First movement is moderato (quarter =88), second movement is a very
rhythmically tricky vivace (quarter =160 to 176), third movement is
a largo (eight @-----.

I have always enjoyed the work and find it a wonderful piece, not
in comparison to this or that work, but by itself.

It is not programmed much because it is not an audience pleaser.

There is an excellent edition by Peters printed in 1916 and
renewed in 1944.

You will need substantial rehearsals, just as you would with the
Brahms, but probably more so here since it is not a well known
work.

Good luck.
