Subj: Clark Fobes' remarks on clarinet cheapness

Well, they don't look so cheap on this side of the pond - apart from plastic
"student" instruments with appalling keywork, and cheap Czech wooden
instruments which crack like whips, and from which (reportedly) the wood dye
runs out in the rain. (Why leave your clari out in the rain, though?) Possibly
this is why Peter Eaton keeps going; Howarth (the oboe people) now have their
name on a clarinet with useful keywork add-ons. If I ever get to London again,
I may try one out.
