Subj: Rovner ligature (I agree, darker tone)
Date: Wed, 18 May 1994 12:22:02 -0400

-->I got this thing on loan for a week....after 30mins first
-->experimentation this morning, it seems to produce a darker tone
-->than what I had before, though reeds behave as if they were
-->softer. Doesn't slip off the mouthpiece easily.
-->
-->Has anyone tried this ligature (or use it). Any comments.
-->It seems a bit pricey at $17 for a stip of fabric....

I've got a Winslow ligature (that's the correct name, right?).
Its made from metal and has large rubber grommets which press
up against the reed. It cost a fortune, but it made the horn
so much easier to play and improved my tone so much, that it
was worth it.

I recently tried a Rovner, or a look-alike during a gig. It
wasn't enough time to adequitely evaluate its use, but an outside
observer reported that the tone was 'darker' than when I used my
own ligature.

Not exactly a scientific taste test here, but I'm going to cast
the vote of my opinion with you. "Yes, I think they seem to result
in a 'darker' tone."

Peas are just beginning to flower (seems late)
