I'm also a student. A while back I decided to learn everything about the
reed that is humanly possible. I got reeds from half a dozen different
companies. I learned how to break them in slowly, balence them, and
polish them until they shine like glass. And with all this I could
still only use five Vandorens or so and have them play even halfway decent.

So then I got serious. I decided to make my own reeds, not with a fancy
reed dual, but by hand. Let me tell you, IT'S HARD. I've destroyed 30 or
so blanks before they started to play. And I have learned one rule.

It's the CANE stupid!

In the end thats all that matters. Without good cane, it does not matter
one bit. You can have the worst cut in the world and good cane will make
you sound like gold.
