Has anyone on the list negotiated the clarinet part for the Nielsen Flute
Concerto? Last night at rehearsal I was enjoying listening to our
clarinetist nimbly scramble about during the double cadenza. As a flute
player I find the solo part to be well written. His wind quintet did not
present any major problems when we worked it up. So what are the
clarinetists' opinions on either piece?

As an aside I'll mention that while playing flute in the orchestra, I have
perhaps a better listening position for hearing the clarinets than even they
do. That is a good thing, because I've played in some orchestras where the
only reliable and stable pitch center comes from the clarinets. Again last
night, listening to the ends of some of the Enigma variations was enough to
make me forget to turn the page in my part :-)
