Dear Dan Leeson:
My comments on air volume were probably ill-constructed, but I was trying to
draw an analogy between the two varieties of A and B flat pairs. From the
experience of others as well as myself, it is often harder work playing an A
soprano than a B flat using the same mouthpiece; presumably, this is something
to do with the increased length compared with the bore cross-section, though I
am ready to be proved wrong. Why shouldn't this also be the case for bass
instruments ? At least, one might reasonably expect it to be so, though your
own experience seems to be different.
