This question is prompted by nostalgic curiosity. All of the discussion about
materials and "blow out" keeps reminding me of conversations I had many
years ago with a fine woodwind repairman in Philadelphia named George
Sarkis. I think his shop was on a numbered street in high twenties, near
the Sheraton, accross the street from the union. In fact, he often found
me work because he knew who was looking for a reedman. His shop was the
archetype: complete apparent disorder, but George could sit there (I can't
remember ever seeing him stand up) and reach any part or tool he needed.
My question is, does anyone know what happened to him? Did he retire?
Is he still alive? He did amazing work, and I remember him fondly.
