Scott McChesney made some interesting comments on materials and sound,
specifically on metal clarinets, comparison with beginners' clarinets etc.
(I also posted earlier re my own experience with clarinets and sound, which
seem to have some bearing on what Scott especially was referring to). In
any case, regarding metal clarinets, I always am reminded that Lester
Young used one on those gorgeous but all-too-rare clarinet solos on some
of his early records, with an admittedly personal but beautiful tone.
