I have several clarinets that I had plated in chrome at the time of
an overhaul. They remain absolutely perfect (in looks at least) to
this day and can neither tarnish nor dull. But the problem with such
work is to find someone who will do it.

Chrome platers are perfectly content if you bring in a car bumper, or
an entire automobile to plate. They can do that without blinking. But
bring in some clarinet keys and they get all weak in the knees.

I asked Clark if he could get my keys chrome plated during my upcoming
overhauls and he suggested that it would probably be both easier and
cheaper to get them plated in gold rather than chrome.

John Denman of Tucson, AZ has gold plated keys and that is some nifty
looking thing!!!
