The unplated keys on my ancient Buffet B flat could have been made yesterday,
if you overlook the occasional hidden touch of verdigris. I can't help thinking
that the custom of nickel or silver plating has arisen mainly to conceal the
effects of the lower copper content of to-day's alloys.
