To summarize, I think that the material
has a greater effect on what the player hears
and feels than on what the audience hears;
of course, this certainly affects how the
player feels and, as a result, plays.
Has there ever been a plastic clarinet
intended for professional use? The ones
I've seen have been student horns.
Perhaps if pro-level mfg techniques
were applied, we'd get a superior
plastic horn, tho it'd undoubtably
have a different feel.

I notice that pro bassoon makers are
making instruments using synthetics.
The proprietor of Forrest's in Berkeley
CA, a store that specializes in double reeds,
thinks it's a Very Good Idea.
