I mentioned in an earlier post the existence of a journal oriented on
acoustics. It is the "Journal of the Acoustical Society of America".

Specifically, there are many articles by John Backus relating to clarinet
reeds. For a very fine listing of clarinet articles on the acoustics of the
clarinett see "A Selective Clarinet Bibliography" by F. Gerard Errante.

Dan Leeson and I are in complete opposition on the point of whether or
not clarinets can be "blown out", but I am in complete agreement that the
oral and chect cavities have a great influence on the production of tone.
Some interesting support to this area of discussion is provided in a book
entitled "Intonation Deficiencies of Wind Instruments" by Donald W. Stauffer.

Mr. Stauffer has also published an article in the "Journal of Acoust Soc Am"
entitled "Role of Oral cavities in the Support of Tone Production
in Wind Instruments". JASA, 35, no.1 (July,1968), 367. I have not read
this , but I do have the previously mentioned book - an excellent little
treatise.
