Martin,

I'm not sure if Vandoren pushed these but I have seen the AccuBore barrels
that I believe are made by DEG. They are aluminum and slotted like you
described. I was told that the material combined with the shape led to
lesser change of deminsions as the horn warmed up thus keeping the instrument
better in tune. I wrote it off as a selling ploy, but then I am a sceptic.
