Jay Heiser comments after having seen the show, "The Tree of Music"
that a particular clarinetis on that show spoke of his view that the
character of the sound of a clarinet derives from the wood and
appears to give credence to the player's statement. I think it
was Pete Fountain who said this but I am not certain.

I do not like to criticize my colleagues but let me say once again,
that my opinion is exactly the opposite of Pete Fountain's. The
sound of the clarinet has very little to do with the the wood. We
have been through this enough times that it is not necessary to rehash
our arguments, but I did want to let any new people on the board (new since
our very extensive discussions on the source of the clarinet's
characteristic sound) that we left this point somewhat divided with one
group leaning towards the view that Fountain expressed and what I believe
to be a much larger group expressing the view that the sound of a clarinet
has little - but not nothing - to do with the material of which it is made.

Just wanted to nail that down, Jay.
