All these communications about one piece instrument bodies... There are
advantages and disadvantages on both sides. I have an old Buffet Bb with a
one piece body.
The case is long and clumsy to carry. It bangs and bounces through doorways
and into and out of the car. It is old and out of tune. Did the single long
piece of wood warp and change more than two shorter pieces would? (I don't
know.). Out of tune, but the instrument's tone is grand. Does a single piece
body make for a deeper, more resonant sound?
My instrument also goes down to (lower) Eb. It is stamped with the serial
number "4P161", and made (I think) in the 1920s or maybe before. Can anyone
out there say anything more about this clarinet? ...its history? Did Buffet
make very many of them?
