Clark Fobes has joined klarinet and we must come to a concensus on a
non trivial point. It is this:: whenever he and I are in disagreement
about something, it is he who is wrong and I who am correct. This
statement is true no matter what the discussion is about: clarinets,
accordions, pad types, reeds, politics, restaurants in Iowa City, the
fast way to get to Elko, Nevada, the deteriorating moral climate in
central Europe, migration patterns of bird types in eastern Asia, etc.,
etc., etc. He may feel insecure in these matters. So he should.

On things on which we agree (for example, the wonderful mouthpiece he
made for my E-flat clarinet and which I used for the Mahler 5
performances last weekend), it shows his good taste and wisdom to be
in agreement with me.
