A semi-hypothetical situation:

On the day of the concert, with your big solo, you wake up with a rich
bubbly cold, a hacking cough, and you sneeze five times before you even
have breakfast. As far as you can remember (and you are having trouble
remembering things with your headache), there are no sneezes in the
percussion part for the piece you are performing.

What do you do?

I woke up this morning with a less drastic version of the above symptoms,
and fortunately my concert is next week and tonight was a only rehearsal.
I stuffed myself with some cold medicine, and things went reasonably well
(sneezed only once while brass was blaring), but I was certainly quite
short of breath (had to break up several phrases and gasp) and not as
alert as I'd like to be. I also felt more nervous and jumpy than usual,
possible due to the "non-drowsy" side effects, and blew a lot more water
into my clarinet than usual.

Any suggestions from experienced Klarinetters about how to make the
best of a bad situation....

Thanks, Martin
