Hi! I wasn't joking about Arnold Brilhart (nobody has responded). C'mon,
he makes Rico reeds, Brilhart mouthpieces, etc. - in the '20's & '30's he
was on tons of radio shows & recorded (playing lead alto & doubling on
ALL the reeds) sitting next to guys like Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Jimmy
Dorsey, Frank Teschemacher, Bud Freeman, etc. in bands that also included
guys like Bix, Jack Teagarden, Joe Venuti, etc. - I'm not looking for a
discography, I can access Rust etc. for that, but Brilhart isn't in the
major reference tools (!) and I can't even find out when & where he was born!
I know he was married to Verlie Mills (the studio harp player also seen in
the Richard Himber film short mentioned in my original posting, which
features him playing a nice hot clarinet solo), and he's been written up in
"Saxophone Journal" (1989) and "The Clarinet" (1990) among other sources (this
library doesn't get either publication). As mentioned, I'd like more data &
how to reach him directly if possible (I know - contact Rico - and wait -
and wait....) So if anyone would like to save me lots of time, they could
at least post the data from the above-mentioned writeups (or "snailmail" a
xerox) PLEASE?
