Grand Concert is introducing a new type of reed in a few weeks.
They claim that the brand they have out already is so well
gauged that they can sell them in quarter sizes (hence 4, 4 1/4,
4 1/2,. . .).

In addition they have come up with a new brand with a Thick Back.
This is also the m name of the reed. The prototypes were sent
out to various players accross the nation last year. Some
liked them, others didn't. It got mixed reviews from the
section here in the Chicago Sypmphony. They will be out to
all dealers soon--and may be out now.

This new brand supposidely doesn't play quite as "thin". But
I personally have not tried them. They are priced the same
as the traditional Grand Concerts but are packaged in a blue
box.
