Klarinet Archive - Posting 000076.txt from 1994/04

I also feel that we should be able to accept accept, even encourage
_occasional_ posting of personal *for sale* and related messages,
especially used instruments and other equipment. Though, of course,
repeated posting of the same items for sale should be discouraged
(just as repeated posting of the same material of any kind without reason)
Perhaps we could draw a parallel with certain other lists and
Usenet newsgroups. For instance, I read rec.photo, the photography
discussion group, where people regularly post articles on used cameras
and lenses. I think it plays a positive role there, since photography
is a (fairly) specialized interest and finding the stuff you want is
not easy; as well, the for sale ads sometimes prompt interesting
discussion on the properties of different models, brands, etc.
It does not seem to have _taken over_ that discussion group, and I haven't
(in my memory) seen great complaints. It could get annoying if the
volume grew too high.
