True, the Internet specifies non-commercial uses, but I've seen
newsgroups such as ba.market.misc (San Francisco Bay Area) which
are dedicated to for-sale offerings by private individuals. Also,
I know of other mailing lists (british-cars comes to mind) which
allow for-sale ads.

I think this may be a question of charter as much as anything else.
If we decide that this is an appropriate use of our mailing list,
and if we prohibit commercial use as opposed to private use (yes,
I know this distinction may get fuzzy, but we can at least bar
LeBlanc and the like from advertising here), then I think we can
proceed without fear of the net.cops. I for one would appreciate
seeing the occasional for-sale item.
