Once again, I am imploring the list for a BIG favor...

I am "stuck" here in Iowa, for lack of a better term. Being the budding
composer that I am - and hoping to eventually write for film and T.V. - I am
exploring my largely self-taught abilities to write. So far, all has gone
well. But, I have run into a problem.

I am in the process of writing a suite of four movements for Concert Band. I
am about half done with the first movement and hope to complete it soon. Part
copying will not take much time - I'm pretty fast at that. My problem, though,
is getting it played. I'm in a small crunch because the end of the school year
is close at hand. I have gotten an unfavorable response from the two directors
in charge of the ensembles in question, so it's not going to be played here.

This is an awful lot to ask, but would any of you out there in higher-
institution land be willing to give this piece a go? All I'd need would be a
postal address. I can send a copy of the score (when I finish it) and a copy
of the master parts for you to run off for your band. A tape will accompany so
the performance can be recorded, if possible. Also, I would prefer a
"critique" of some sorts - your general feelings about the piece, what you
liked, what you didn't, what you would change, etc.

It is NOT a Clarinet Concerto; I must stress that now. So, I will have to
admit that it truly is not worthy of the members of this list. Forgive me; I
know not that style - yet. I also know that this is above and beyond the
normal list call, but I am not sure where to go from here. My two options here
are off-limits until at least the fall - and by then I hope to have the whole
thing completed. But I want to hear the first movement before I get too deep
into the rest, for it contains much of the compositional material that will
surface in later movements. To know now that it doesn't work will save me
time.

If you can't help me, but you know someone who can, please let me know of that,
too. I need an outlet for the music, and right now I don't have one. Thanks!!
