About ten years ago, when I mentioned jaw tension to
a good dentist I visited in Manhattan, he suggested
an exercise that I found gave me relief over the years.

Start with your mouth closed, lips together, teeth
barely apart. Press a fist up against the underside
of your chin, braced against the front of the jaw bone.
Now, from the back of your jaw, slowly press straight
downward to resist the pressure from your fist. Open
the jaw as far as you can while keeping the lips together
gently. Release and repeat, always slowly and smoothly.

The dentist also suggested I use a heat pack on my jaw and
throat. He directed me to one that fit the contour of
the jaw and throat that was shaped somewhat like a lobster.
