I have been a die hard V-12 user for that past four or five years, but I
have recently made the switch to Olivieri. Over the years there has
been a great fluctuation in quality, but now they are playing very well.
However, it is crucial that you order direct! Do not buy the commercially
available boxes because they are the product of a terrible cane year. All
the distributors are selling them at cheap prices, but they are useless.

Olivieri charges $8.90 for a box of 10, and you can order from him by
calling 1-800-FINE-REED. The "D" is unnecessary but helps to remember
the number. He will send them to you in two or three days.

For those of you who have not had any success in adjusting them etc., it
is crucial that you do not touch the top third of the reed (the area where
I did 90% of my adjustments on Vandorens). To balance, scrape or sand on
the sides at the back half of the vamp, to lighten the reed take of right
in the middle at the very back of the vamp, right next to the bark. If
you mess with the tips they will die instantly. Don't try just one box,
because like Vandoren, there are occasional bad boxes, but at this price,
it is forgivable.

P.S. Send good vibes for me April 9, I am in the finals of the
Boosey and Hawkes competition.
