On the subject of dealing with warped reeds: when I studied with Jim
Pyne in Buffalo, he had all his students buy a "mil bastard" file at the
local hardware store to use on the backs of reeds. It seems to work,
but you'll get some strange looks from the double reed players when you
pull out an industrial-looking file while they work with their much more
refined Vitry knives.

Oh, and on a new subject, what do all of you do tempo-wise in the first
movement of the Poulenc Sonata? Even though it is marked 136 (or something
like that), I have heard people take the intro up to about 160/quarter,
slowing down for the first theme.
