Funny the subject of metal clarinets should come up. I bought a
Penzel-Mueller Boehm "Clari-Met" in a Northern California antique shop some
time ago. The owner wanted $65, but I talked her down to $25. It's a
double-walled instrument, and is missing the side Eb/Bb key and the top joint
bridge key. Otherwise, the horn is in excellent shape, with a decent
mouthpiece and a tan French-style, purple-lined (fancy, huh?) case. Anyone
know where I could pick up/have made the missing keys?
About 30 years ago, when Lockie Music (Los Angeles) went out
of business, I found a matched set of Haynes sterling double-walled clarinets
like new in one-piece vertical case. Lockie wanted $120 for the pair, and I
was too broke as a college student to buy them! To this day I kick myself!
I wonder who bought them?
In conclusion: most metal clarinets would make good lamps (I have
one). Price: not over $25 max. If their double-walled, Sterling, or by
Haynes, well.....................!! Call me!
